What is EMDR?
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It is a psychotherapy that can help clients heal from emotional distress and symptoms from traumatic or disturbing experiences. EMDR can also help with anxiety, depression, OCD, chronic pain, and addiction.
How does it work?
During EMDR, the client will focus on a traumatic memory for a short period while experiencing bilateral stimulation through eye movements, tones, or tactile options. The bilateral stimulation helps the client reduce the intense emotions and the decrease the sharpness of the traumatic memory.
Is EMDR right for me?
You and I will meet and decide if EMDR is the best therapy for you. Typically, EMDR begins after several sessions with the therapist to ensure there is sufficient and a clear understanding of history, symptoms, and treatment goals as well as trust between the client and therapist. EMDR is not something done in initial sessions.
